Patricia De Courcy Ireland, M.S.W, RSW

Patsy has an MSW from McGill University, a BSW from the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia), and since 2000 has been a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Patsy is also a Member of the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists.

Patsy has been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); Thought Field Therapy (TFT); Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR); Brain Gym; and Guided Self Healing (GSH). Her treatment goals are solution-focused and culturally sensitive, working to deal with the anguish of PTSD, regardless of the origin of the trauma.

Her areas of strength include trauma, crisis intervention; stress management; grief and loss; spiritual/religious disconnection (Why me?! Why now?! How could God do this to me?!); self esteem, personal growth and resilience issues; and compassion fatigue. Patsy has worked with individuals of all ages, and while she has helped clients with a wide range of issues, Patsy has specialized in working with the consequences of trauma.

Patsy’s career has included:

• Teaching in the Crisis Intervention Programme at the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced learning.
• Organisational Consulting – effect on employees of policy decisions, lay-off/downsizing debriefings, counseling and setting up counseling units, Quality Circles
• Setting up a new school
• Teaching at-risk young adults about trauma and its consequences, and setting up a peer consultation network.
